PS6 utilizes Wit & Wisdom® for students in K-5th grade, a comprehensive English Language Arts curriculum crafted to help students build the techniques they need to be successful readers, exceptional writers, and effective communicators. Wit & Wisdom® believes that classrooms are places where students and teachers encounter wit, wisdom, wonder, rigor, and knowledge and that literature, history, art, and science all have a place in English Language Arts instruction.

SciencePS6 uses a phenomena-based science curriculum that blends hands-on investigations, literacy-rich activities, and interactive digital tools. By collecting evidence from different sources students are able to think, read, write, and argue like real scientists. Each unit engages all learners in a relevant, real-world problem where they assume the role of a scientist to investigate scientific phenomena, engage in collaborative discussion, and develop models or explanations to arrive at solutions.
PS6 uses a balanced approach to technology to equip students with digital literacy and technological skills, encompassing areas like computer fundamentals, internet usage, online safety, and software applications, while also fostering critical thinking about technology's impact. Balancing digital citizenship and safety with units on word processing, presentation, graphic design, typing, and coding, allows students to experience technology in a safe and secure environment.
MusicThe PS6 music program presents an artistic environment for students to explore their musical passions, whether through performance, composition, or study, nurturing a love for music and its diverse expressions. Students can participate in various ensembles, such as Chorus and Percussion. The department offers a scaffolded curriculum that supports academic growth in music theory, music history, ear training, music appreciation, composition, and analysis – all of which is accessible to different types of learners.
Visual ArtsOur emerging artists explore a variety of engaging projects designed to inspire their imaginations and develop their artistic skills. Our focus is on cultivating independence as young artists learn to bring their unique ideas to life. Whether they’re painting, crafting, or experimenting with mixed media, students are encouraged to think creatively, take risks, and express themselves in meaningful ways. In our art room, every child is an artist, and every creation tells a story!
Physical Education (PE)Physical Education at PS6 empowers students to build fitness knowledge, encourage personal and social responsibility, and discover an appreciation for physical activity. Through team-based activities, students experience how collaboration can make exercise more enjoyable. They learn to take on leadership roles and navigate challenges as both team members and captains. Our program promotes essential life skills that support a healthy, active lifestyle that extends beyond the classroom.
