Arts Programming
Complementary to our arts curriculum, PS6 maintains partnerships with numerous external arts organizations, enabling exposure to a range of age-appropriate programs. Conducted during school hours, our arts programming is generously funded by our PTA. Parents are invited to watch the students perform following each program. These productions provide an encouraging environment for students to showcase their talents and build self-esteem.
Arts Partners for 2024-25

Studio in a School provides visual arts instruction that focuses on painting, drawing, collage, and clay. Our early childhood program is designed to nurture creativity while building foundational techniques such as close looking, making expressive choices, and improving fine motor skills.

Applause, a school of performing arts, has served our community for nearly 30 years. Students develop confidence in theater and dance in the hip hop class, which offers students a chance to explore their creativity as they build a deeper understanding of body awareness, rhythm, and music. Each class consists of a cardio warm-up, stretch, foundational steps, creative movement-based games, and hip-hop dance routines.

American Youth Dance Theater provides students with dynamic hip hop dance classes. These high-energy classes are a fantastic way for kids to develop rhythm, coordination, and style. Students will learn foundational hip hop techniques, build strength and stamina, and express themselves through creative movement.

NDI has been a proud partner of PS6 since 2013. The program is taught by teams of three teaching artists – two dance teacher/choreographers, and a music/accompanist – who work collaboratively to ensure deep and authentic learning in the art form, with the goal of success for every child. Students learn the fundamentals of movement and music by mastering choreography with clarity, energy, and precision.

Jerijah West is a Teaching Artist who specializes in West African, Hip Hop, and Afro Caribbean dance styles. He teaches our first graders Hip Hop, while third graders are guided in traditional and contemporary West African dance movements, in line with their curriculum on Africa.

Creative Stages NYC empowers students through Shakespeare. Students develop essential academic and life skills by studying and performing a Shakespearean play. They delve into plots, analyze characters, and build their vocabulary while mastering theatrical techniques such as tableaus, stage blocking, and vocal projection.
