3K and PreK

We’re excited to share that PS6 now has dedicated space to welcome our youngest learners in 3K and PreK, in addition to our K–5 community. Children who turn four during the current calendar year (January 1st through December 31st) are eligible for admission to PreK and children who turn three during the current calendar year are eligible for admission to 3K.

Each of our 3K classes can accommodate 15 students, one head teacher, and one paraprofessional. Each of our PreK classes can accommodate 18 students, one head teacher, and one paraprofessional.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten

Children who turn five during the current calendar year (January 1st through December 31st) are eligible for admission to Kindergarten. Students who did not attend Kindergarten and are age appropriate for 1st grade (turning six during the current calendar year) will be admitted to 1st grade.

The Office of Student Enrollment oversees the Kindergarten application process. Please visit the DOE website for more information nor to sign up for email alerts.

Families will receive notification about a placement offer in March or early April and be asked to schedule an appointment at PS6 for pre-registration.

Admission is not first-come, first served. All applications received by the deadline will be treated the same by the Office of Student Enrollment based on the admissions priorities outlined below.

Standard Admissions Priorities for Zoned Schools

Students residing in the zone, who have a sibling at the school in grades K-5
for the upcoming school year;
Students residing in the zone, who do not have a sibling at the school;

If space allows, students residing outside the zone may also be admitted, in the following priority order:

Students residing in the district, who have a sibling at the school in grades K-5 for the upcoming school year; (parents are typically notified by the Office of Student in Enrollment in late August if a seat is available)
Students residing outside the district, who have a sibling at the school in grades K-5 for the upcoming school year;
Students residing in the district, who currently attend the school’s pre-kindergarten program
Students residing outside the district, who currently attend the school’s pre-kindergarten program;
Students who reside in the district, other than those in (1) and (3) above;
Students who reside outside the district, other than those in (2) and (4) above.

Historically we fill our available seats with students who live in our zone; therefore if you do not live in the zone, the chance of receiving a placement in our school is low.

If you live in the zone, please call our main office at 212-452-6650 to make an appointment for registration. Appointments are scheduled Monday through Friday from the hours of 9:00am-12:00pm. During the appointment, you must submit proof of your child’s date of birth and proof of residence. See below for the required documents for registration.

Your child MUST be present at the time of registration.

You must bring MUST bring the following documents (ORIGINAL documents are required, along with a copy of each original document):

Child’s birth certificate, passport or baptismal certificate for proof of birth.
Child’s school report card, if applicable.
Health Examination form completed by the pediatrician's office.
Child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), if applicable.
Two (2) proofs of residence (see acceptable documents below)

NOTE: We are extremely meticulous about address verification.

According to the Chancellor's Regulation A-101, your child’s primary residence is where s/he resides and sleeps at night. An apartment you rent or own but do not reside in at the time of registration, your place of employment or any other variation is not considered a primary residence. For divorced families, the address of the custodial parent is used for registration; the custody agreement must be submitted at the time of registration.

The NYCDOE reserves the right to conduct address investigations and abide by the findings of the investigations. It’s illegal to question families on their immigration status. Immigrants do not have to provide documents of US residency but they must provide the same proofs of residence as noted above.
